It has been said that everything is derivative. Nothing is new. Every thought, every action, and every word are the result of unconscious processes within a person’s psyche and ego. We are shaped by our genetic makeup, by our upbringing, and by events that we choose to focus on.
Our “self” - that vibrational pattern that presents itself to the world as our self-image at that moment - changes with every heartbeat.
Do you identify yourself at a given moment as a parent, as an employer, as an employee, as a grief-stricken survivor of an accident or a person whose friend has just died?
Unless you are stuck in some sort of rut, you will not be that creature tomorrow, maybe not in just a few minutes.
Are you obsessed with television news or frustrated by your inability to change the direction the world is headed? That is very unfortunate for you. You might be happier to just go inside, where it’s safe.
Take a deep breath. Take another one.
To study the Way is to study the self.
To study the self is to forget the self.
To forget the self is to be enlightened by all things.
- Zen master Dogen
Let go.
As we used to say in the glorious sixties, “Go with the flow”.
