JUSTICE, n. : in American jurisprudence it is Procedure, and nothing else; People with even the most basic sense have long mistaken the word to allude to fairness and truth. . . (Excuse me, I’m laughing too hard to continue.)

Once upon a midnight dreary,

I saw through my picture window clearly

A police cruiser bearing

Down upon my neighbor wearing

His nightly face of torpid drunkenness.

Spoke I, “More! More!”

Then soon enough the copper spaketh,

Saying to the drunkard, “You! Awaketh!

“I’m taking your ass to jail.

“Resist and upon you I’ll wail

“Away with my new polished hick’ry club.”

Said I, “Give ‘im the stick!”

Then time-tested jurisprudence

Came to bear to make a good man wince.

The toper pulled out I.D.

Showing him the Head Cop to be.

And somewhere Atlas shrugged and shook his head.

Moaned I, “The Truth is dead.”
